FAQ'S ABOUT ATHEISM
I have made these FAQ's as a way of answering some common quesions about atheism.
- What is atheism?
- Atheism is the position that god does not exhist.
- Is atheism a religion?
- No, atheism is not a religion as their is no belief in a diety or supreme being. You can read a more complete answer here.
- Why do some people say that atheism is a religion?
- Either through ignorance; they simply don't understand what atheism is. Or for political reasons; so they can justify teaching creationism in the public school system along side evolution.
- What does atheism teach, what are its fundamental assumptions?
- Atheism has no doctrines or beliefs and teaches us nothing. It has only one fundamental assumption, that god does not exhist. After that, atheism is a blank slate which each atheist fills in for themselves.
- Then where do atheists get their beliefs?
- From their experiences, from society at large, from their education and their life experiences in general. Atheists pull their beliefs from the world we live in, then start philosophising to create a complete world view.
- Can you prove that god doesn't exist?
- Yes and no. Every atheist has proven it to themself that god doesn't exist. That is why we believe the way we do. But we can't prove that god doesn't exist to a true believer.
- Do you admit the possability that god does actually exist?
- Yes, it is possible that god exists. As the saying goes, any thing is possible. But it's not probable.
