ABOUT
This is a personal "hobby" website. Meaning that it isn't supported by any institution or organization. Just me.
Something about me.
I'm 50 something years old, from the USA, and raised with a typical Christian background. When I reached the age of reason (about 15 or 16) I attempted to verify the things I had been taught through Christianity. But I couldn't. It took me another 20 years to put my ideas into prospective. Finally I came to understand religion as a cultural variable, and began searching for a more relevant way to see and understand the world.
Average atheist
I call myself an average atheist because I have no formal training in theology or philosophy. Nor do I have a college degree or any special education. I'm a typical blue collar college drop out, with an average education and average life experiences. Just like most of you.
I created and maintain this web site to accomplish several personal goal:
- To help organize and clarify my thoughts by writing to an audience
- To get public review of my work in order to identify its strengths, weaknesses, and errors
- To contact and interact with other like minded people
- To share my knowledge
Organization
The organization of this site is pretty much random. I spend a little time each day writing what comes to mind and then post each idea when it is complete. In the future when the content is larger, I might arrange it into chapters or something. But until then, it will be a loose association of articles and ideas.
Talk to me in my language
I expect my audience will be other atheists, and religious folks looking to refute what I am saying. If you are the latter, please do not quote scripture to me because I do not recognize the bible as an authority. I welcome a lively and intelligent discussion, but talk to me in terms that I can understand; reason and logic. Otherwise you will not be heard.
Other domain names
I have registered some other domain names in the past, and created various other web sites to represented the different ideas I have had. Now I have consolidated all of them here into this one website, SecularThinking.com.
